Repainting mould-affected walls and ceilings

Mould staining can damage the appearance of walls and ceilings, but paint is not a cure for an active moisture problem.

What the work can include

The right sequence is to identify and address the cause, clean and dry the surface, prepare failed coatings, then repaint where suitable.

  • Where mould commonly appears

Mould staining is often seen on bathroom ceilings, bedrooms, external-wall corners, laundries, poorly ventilated rooms and surfaces affected by condensation or previous water ingress.

  • Before repainting

If moisture is still entering the surface from a leak, failed waterproofing, roof issue, plumbing fault or another building defect, that cause should be addressed first. Painting over active damp usually leads to repeat failure.

  • Cleaning and surface preparation

Once the cause has been dealt with and the surface is suitable for coating, the repaint scope may include cleaning, removal of loose or failed paint, minor filling, appropriate priming and repainting. Read our guide to painting after mould damage for the preparation sequence and scope limits.

  • When another trade may be needed

Large, recurring or hidden mould problems, structural damp, water leaks or significant contaminated material can require assessment or remediation beyond a painter’s normal scope.

  • Repainting after water or mould damage

After the substrate is dry and stable, repainting can restore a uniform finish to affected walls and ceilings and blend repaired areas into the surrounding room.

Pars Painting can quote painting and preparation of suitable surfaces. This page does not claim specialist mould remediation, leak repair, waterproofing or building-defect diagnosis.

How quoting works

A written quote, confirmed by Kian

  1. Get in touch

Call, send a WhatsApp message, or leave your name, phone number, suburb and what needs painting in the short form. A further description of the job is optional. For a small job, useful photos, your suburb and preferred timing sent on WhatsApp can get you an initial estimate from Kian.

  2. Kian reviews the job

He reviews the surfaces, their condition and the access — from your photos, suburb and timing for a suitable small job, or with an on-site visit for anything larger or unclear — then talks through what you want painted or repaired.

  3. You get a written quote

The quote sets out the agreed surfaces, preparation and price, confirmed once Kian has reviewed the scope, condition and access — a visit may still be needed. Photos alone do not fix a final quote.
